Grants

The Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (JJDP) Act was enacted by Congress in 1974. The JJDP Act provides federal funding for states to develop several different juvenile justice and delinquency prevention initiatives. Title II of the JJDP Act is designed to assist states in developing alternatives to secure detention for status offenders and in developing secure juvenile detention facilities so that juveniles are not incarcerated with adults. Title V of the JJDP Act provides funding to support local communities in developing prevention initiatives.

The department also provides state general funding to support local juvenile delinquency prevention programming through a network of local juvenile delinquency prevention councils.
