About Ashland Day Treatment Center
Ashland Day Treatment Center serves Boyd, Carter, and Greenup counties, accepting youth aged 10-18 for unique educational opportunities and special learning. The program was founded in 1997 and has a capacity of 36 youth. Juveniles from Ashland Group Home attend school at this location, as well as students from outside of the DJJ system.

​Melissa Simms-Smith, Facility Manager

Melissa Simms-Smith has been with the Department of Juvenile Justice since 2015. She worked at Boyd Regional Juvenile Detention Center for 5 years, before moving to Ashland Day Treatment in 2020, where she serves as the juvenile facility manager. Prior to her career with the department, Simms-Smith worked in education for 18 years.

Simms-Smith began working with the department because she has a strong desire to help juveniles get onto a good path that will lead them to the best possible future. She says her motivation is helping the youth that have fallen behind find and access opportunities to be successful.
