Breathitt Regional Juvenile Detention Center provides a safe and secure environment for Kentucky’s at-risk juveniles to grow and learn to be productive individuals. The facility offers many opportunities to the youth allowing them to grow and flourish.
About Breathitt Regional Juvenile Detention Center
Breathitt Regional Juvenile Detention Center was the first state run facility constructed to house juveniles only. It was built and founded in 1997 and represents the long-lasting legacy of the Department of Juvenile Justice. The facility saw an expansion in 2001 to accommodate more space and amenities for juveniles in its care.
Available amenities include a library, indoor and outdoor recreation areas, counseling services, and art programs. It is a low-level secure facility that houses a maximum of 43 male juveniles from across the state.

Visitation Info
Saturday and Sunday 12:30pm - 2:00pm, Tuesday and Thursday 6:00pm - 7:00pm. Virtual visitation is available. For families who do not have access to an electronic device, a virtual visitation station is available Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00am – 4:00pm EDT at 8711 LaGrange Rd., Building E, Louisville, Ky. 40242. Dennis Moore, Interim Superintendent
Dennis Moore, a lifelong resident of Breathitt County, has devoted his career to supporting and guiding the youth of his community. He began his professional journey in 2000 as a youth worker I with the Department of Juvenile Justice. Through years of dedication and a strong commitment to helping young people overcome challenges, he progressed through a series of leadership positions, including youth worker III, facility mentor, supervisor, youth services program supervisor (YSPS), and assistant superintendent.
As superintendent, Moore continues to lead with compassion and integrity. His main source of motivation comes from witnessing the positive transformations in the lives of the young people he has mentored, inspiring him to remain dedicated to improving the juvenile system and making a lasting difference in his community.
